1 Een lijst bijhouden

Na verloop van tijd groeit uw collectie steeds meer. Soms gaat er wat stuk of wordt verkocht, meestal komt er wat bij. Nu we nog overzicht hebben is het verstandig om een lijst te gaan bijhouden. Niet alleen handig, maar ook nog een leuke bezigheid om naast het dorpen opbouwen toch met je hobby bezig te zijn. En in sommige gevallen zelfs noodzakelijk, u zal niet de eerste zijn met een dubbel figuurtje of zelfs een huisje!

Eenvoudig alle aankopen opschrijven is een optie, maar een eigen catalogus maken is leuker, vooral met plaatjes erbij! dit kan met knip en plak werk maar zeker ook op de computer. Bijvoorbeeld in "word" van Office. Neem een blanco bladzijde, schrijf het itemnummer en naam op, eventueel het merk, tot welk thema deze behoort en voeg een afbeelding in. Deze afbeeldingen kun je overal online vinden, bijvoorbeeld bij de leveranciers op hun site (linken staan op de eerste pagina van minidorp.nl) klik met je rechtermuisknop op het plaatje en kies voor "opslaan als". Ook zit er in het Officepakket een programma voor publicaties, genaamd Publisher. In dit programma kun je diversen ontwerpen kiezen om een catalogus aan te maken en geheel aanpassen aan je eigen stijl. Er is ook een programma te koop via internet (o.a. E-bay) wat speciaal voor verzamelaars is opgesteld. Dit is oorspronkelijk voor D56 verzamelaars en bevat alvast een groot gedeelte van de D56 collectie, maar is echter aan te passen/ uit te breiden met je eigen collectie Lemax, Luville of wat dan ook.

In sommige gevallen kan het handig zijn om ook de aanschafwaarde te vermelden in je eigen boekje, zeker als dit item later meer in waarde is gestegen is het leuk om te weten wat je er destijds voor betaald hebt.

De itemnummers van de artikelen hebben alle ook een betekenis, wat misschien handig kan zijn voor het archiveren van je catalogus zo is bijvoorbeeld bij Lemax: het 1ste nummer het jaartal van uitgave. Het 2e is het type item. De laatste 3 nummers zijn het fabrieks itemnummer.
Bij het 2e nummer, dus het type item staat 1 voor een landschap artikel, als dat een 2 of een 3 is, is het tafelstuk of figurines,
als het een 4 is accessoires bosjes, hekjes en ondergronden.
bij een 5 is het een huisje, 6 staat voor Animatie items. en bij 7 is het waarschijnlijk een achtergrond.

2 Elektra

Algemeen  Hoeveel aansluiten  Fiberoptic 110V import Afstandsbediening Ombouwen naar adapter

Hoewel er vele soorten van porseleinen huisjes bestaan, enkel en alleen om te verzamelen, zoals de KLM huisjes enz., zijn de meeste bezoekers van deze site geïnteresseerd in huisjes met ingebouwde verlichting.

De verlichting van deze huisjes geschied door middel van een meegeleverd adaptersnoertje met een lampje, die met een klemsysteem aan de achter of onderkant in het huisje wordt geklemd. Deze lampjes zijn over het algemeen 3 of 12 volt, vandaar de adapter. Echter zijn er ook oudere huisjes en o.a. Dickensville zonder adapter en deze gebruiken dus gewoon 220/230 volt. De diameter van het gat in de huisjes voor het klemsysteem verschilt per merk en het is dus niet altijd uitwisselbaar. Bij meerdere huisjes op een display kan er nogal een wirwar aan snoeren ontstaan met een legio adapters in net zoveel verlengsnoeren. Ondanks dat de verlengsnoeren zonder gevaar kunnen worden doorgekoppeld, vanwege het lage voltage wat men gebruikt, is het toch misschien handiger om een "multi" systeem aan te schaffen.  Alle merken hebben oplossingen in hun assortiment, van een adapter met 3 of 6 lampjes tot een compleet systeem met 12 aansluitingen voor diversen 3volt items, waaronder dus snoertjes met lampjes.

Hoeveel items kunnen er nou op één aansluiting.?. Simpel, 3 watt (vermogen meeste items en huisjes) gedeeld door 230 volt (spanning) = 0.01 ampère (stroom). Meestal zitten er minimaal 8 ampère stoppen in de meterkast. Omgekeerd ( spanning x stroom = vermogen ) kun je dan afleiden dat je 230 x 8 ampère op één stop kan zetten. Dat is 1840 watt op één stop. Sluit je dus niks anders op die stop aan, kun je dus 1840 gedeeld door 3 = 613 huisjes op een enkele stop zetten...

 Fiberoptic    Sommige huisjes hebben ook hele kleine verlichting aan de buitenkant, dit wordt via fiberdraadjes naar het punt verlicht, deze worden dan ook wel fiberoptic genoemd. Deze verlichting treft men meestal aan bij de B-merken maar ook de anderen wagen zich hieraan, veelal met knipperend effect en in allerlei kleurstellingen. Als er in plaats van de normale verlichting, extra verlichting of bewegende delen op of aan een item zitten wordt er een aparte adapter bijgeleverd, controleer of deze ook daadwerkelijk in de verpakking zit! In Nederland gebruiken wij 220/230 Volt, wees er dus zeker van dat uw item hiervoor geschikt is en geen import voor 110 Volt.

DAL oftewel Display Anywhere Lightning is exclusief om Department 56 huizen draadloos te verlichten, het is ontworpen om uw huizen zonder een lichtsnoer te laten branden, op een batterij. Op deze manier kunt u uw items overal plaatsen zonder aan een stopcontact te hoeven denken. En u kunt uw gebouwen aan en uit zetten met de nieuwe afstandsbediening die u meer vertoninggemak en flexibiliteit geeft dan ooit voordien.

Naast de huisjes zijn er natuurlijk vele andere verlichte items verkrijgbaar om het dorp aan te kleden, o.a. natuurlijk de lampslingers, bomen en straatverlichting, maar ook items waarmee iets gebeurt. De zogenaamde "animatie" items zoals schaats en ski baantjes met bewegende figuurtjes.
De meeste lantarentjes en dergelijke gebruiken 3 volt (man) en zijn vaak verbonden via een batterij kastje, wat zich weer laat aansluiten op een adapter of een multisysteem. De "platte" huizen (façade) en kleine items met bewegende delen en meerdere opties zullen veelal op 4,5 volt (vrouwtje) werken. Ook voor deze 3 volt en 4,5 volt items zijn adapters verkrijgbaar met meerdere aansluitingen zodat ook hier in ruimte bespaard kan worden. verderop staat een beschrijving om batterij items passend om te bouwen naar adapter

De grotere schaatsbanen, skihellingen en complexe items hebben alle een meegeleverde adapter die enkel en alleen voor dat item geschikt is, merk deze met een sticker of viltstift en houdt deze bij het item verpakt! de wattage en/of voltage kan verschillen en niemand wil dat zijn items "doorbranden"..

Items geïmporteerd vanuit de US of Canada werken op 110 volt vanwege het stroomnet aldaar. In Europa kunnen deze items gebruikt worden door eerst een omvormer in het stopcontact te plaatsen. Deze omvormers zijn verkrijgbaar in de betere elektraspeciaalzaak en kunnen door middel van een 110 volt verlengsnoer gebruikt worden voor een paar items. Bezit je veel 110 volt items kun je beter een zware omvormkast aanschaffen, deze zijn echter vrij kostbaar! Uiteraard kun je de items met alleen verlichting voorzien van een Europees lichtsnoer.

 Een handige tip voor tijdens het aansluiten, is het gebruik van een systeem op afstandbediening, zodat u uw dorp met één druk op de knop aan of uit zet. Op deze systemen zijn meerdere stopcontacten mogelijk. Sluit zoveel mogelijk uw animatie en herrie makende items op één schakelaar aan, deze kunt u dan apart uitzetten als het even te veel wordt.

Soms kom je leuke items tegen die helaas alleen op batterijen werken. Om batterijen te vervangen in een reeds afgewerkt dorp kan heel vervelend zijn.

Gelukkig zijn deze redelijk simpel om te bouwen, zodat ze op uw adapters zijn aan te sluiten.  klik hier voor stap voor stap foto's  2 x een AA batterij is namelijk gelijk aan 3 volt en 3 x een AA batterij is 4,5 volt. De aansluiting op de 3 volt adapters zijn zogenaamde "mannetjes" (jackplug), als we een "vrouwtje" bevestigen aan het item met 2 x AA kunnen we deze net als de lantaarns en dergelijke gewoon op het stroomnet aansluiten. De pluggen zijn er in 2,5 en 3,5 mm. Neem uw adapter mee naar de elektro speciaalzaak en haal passende "vrouwtjes" of knip deze van bijvoorbeeld een oude mono koptelefoon. Neem vervolgens een stukje 2-aderig elektrodraad en "strip" hier ongeveer een cm van de buitenkabel af. Open de plug en soldeer beide draden aan de aansluitingen, let op dat deze wel gescheiden blijven. Strip vervolgens ook een stukje van het uiteinde van de kabel en open het batterijkastje. Sluit de zojuist aangebrachte plug aan op uw adapter en houd beide kale draden op de batterijaansluitingen om te testen welke kant + of - is. Als het licht aangaat is het de juiste kant en kunt u deze, nadat de adapter weer uitgeschakeld is, vervolgens ook beide vast solderen. Breek of knip een klein hoekje uit het batterijklepje voor de draden, sluit het klepje en uw item is klaar om te pronken in uw dorp! Voor 3 x AA batterij items (4,5 volt) heeft u andere plugjes nodig (mannetjes) maar is de werkwijze het zelfde.

3 Uitpakken

Eenmaal thuisgekomen met uw aankopen wilt u deze natuurlijk zo snel mogelijk uitpakken en bekijken, goed om te weten is het dat u met een paar dingen rekening dient te houden. Elk merk heeft namelijk zo zijn eigen manier van verpakken. Elke verpakking van de eerder genoemd merken voldoen aan bepaalde eisen, zo moet de verpakking van de porseleinen huisjes ondermeer voldoen aan een zogenaamde valproef. Dit betekend dat de inhoud minimaal een kleine val of stoot moet overleven.

De verpakkingen worden per item ontworpen en meestal machinaal vervaardigd en passend uitgevoerd in piepschuim, inclusief ruimte voor alle losse items. Soms kun je aan de “grove” kanten van de piepschuimverpakking bij items zien dat deze met de hand zijn uitgesneden, naast het leuke sneeuweffect verraad dit tevens dat de oplage van het item dusdanig laag was dat een speciaal ontworpen machinale mal voor deze verpakking waarschijnlijk niet kostendekkend was. Voor echte verzamelaars wel weer leuk om te weten dat dit dus een beperkte oplage kan zijn.

Om de piepschuimverpakking gaat een doos of huls van karton met opdruk van het item of een venster die de inhoud laat zien. Ook vind u op deze verpakking het merk, de naam die de producent aan het item heeft gegeven, het thema waartoe het behoort en een serie of itemnummer. Dit nummer is handig om alle informatie over het item terug te vinden op het internet of in de catalogus. Veelal geven de eerste cijfers van de code bijvoorbeeld ook het jaar van uitgifte weer.

De piepschuimbox bestaat meestal uit twee delen die voorzichtig uit de kartonnen doos gehaald moeten worden. Lemax heeft daar een klittenbandje voor om de box gedaan, waarmee u de inhoud zo omhoog trekt. Let er vooral op dat u de verpakking goed om neer zet. Negen van de tien keer staat er “up” oftewel “boven” in het piepschuim maar er kan ook “top” of “hout” staan. Als er niks staat kunt u het beste kijken of het piepschuim uit twee ongelijke delen bestaat, het dikste deel is voor 99,90% zeker de onderkant. Zo voorkomt u dat uw aanschaf uit de doos valt. Let echter op bij koetsen en tafereeltjes van Department 56 is dit veelal juist andersom en staat het stuk juist rechtop de dunne kant van de piepschuimbox en is het hoge gedeelte erover heen geschoven! Als u voorzichtig te werk gaat en de verpakking heel houd kunnen de items straks weer terug in de doos en blijven zo dus beschermd tegen breuk.

De verpakkingen van de figurines en bomen echter zijn vaak blisters, oftewel doorzichtige kunststof verpakkingen. Deze zijn vrij stug maar kunnen bij een val of flinke stoot niet garanderen dat de figurines heel blijven. Omdat de meeste figurines van polyresin worden gemaakt en daardoor minder kwetsbaar zijn volstaat deze manier van verpakken veelal. Department 56 voert echter zijn figurines uit in porselein en u zult vast hebben gezien dat deze dan ook, net als de huisjes, in een piepschuim doos verpakt zitten. Het uitpakken en weer opbergen in een blisterverpakking gaat meestal niet handig en vergt nogal wat geduld. Dit omdat de blisters (helaas) tegen diefstal vaak op een aantal punten zijn dichtgesmolten of voorzien van een nietje.

4 Opruimen

Aan alles komt een eind, zo ook aan het winterdorp. Na waarschijnlijk enkele weken te hebben genoten van uw winterdorp komt de tijd om het ook weer op te ruimen. Een klus waar we, bij het bouwen al, eigenlijk tegen aan hikken maar onvermijdelijk is verbonden met onze hobby. Net als bij het bouwen is het hierbij ook handig om een goede voorbereiding te treffen. Zet alle dozen en lege verpakkingen alvast klaar, neem een vuilniszak in de buurt en zorg voor een vrije plaats om uw items veilig te kunnen inpakken. Een kwastje is handig om uw kostbare items even schoon te vegen alvorens ze weer in hun doos te doen. Een tubetje secondelijm kan nodig zijn om eventuele beschadigde items nog te herstellen.
Als alle voorbereidingen getroffen zijn kunt u het beste eerst beginnen met het verwijderen van alle losse stukken, zoals figurines en bomen. Erg handig om je figurines weer op te bergen, zijn de kerstbalboxen die verkrijgbaar zijn bij de huishoudzaken en bouwmarkten. Deze boxen zijn voorzien van vakjes en zijn vooral na de kerst goedkoop aan te schaffen. Voor de kleinere onderdelen zijn er ook opberg/sorteerdozen voor schroefjes en spijkers, ook deze hebben al vakjes maar veelal aan de krappe kant. Het voordeel van het op deze manieren opruimen is dat het overzichtelijk blijft en de boxen zijn nog stapelbaar ook. Tussen twee lagen figurines kunt u misschien een laagje sneeuwdeken plaatsen. Om het echt overzichtelijk te houden en setjes figurines bij elkaar te kunnen houden kunt u de itemnummers onderop het figuurtje schrijven met een permanente stift. Als u hierbij dan vermeld uit hoeveel figuurtjes een setje bestaat, bijvoorbeeld itemnummer 58396/3 bestaat dus uit 3 onderdelen…is dit altijd compleet terug te vinden.
Als alle losse bomen, figuurtjes en muurtjes opgeruimd zijn kunt u uw huisjes één voor één loskoppelen van hun snoer, afstoffen en in de verpakking doen. Department 56 heeft bijna om elk huis een stukje plastic wat erg handig is om het soepel in en uit hun piepschuim box te laten glijden, dit kunt u gemakkelijk met een oude boodschappentas ook op andere merken toepassen. Denk erom alle losse vlaggetjes en uithangbordjes te verwijderen alvorens deze door te drukken. meestal is voor deze tere deeltjes een uitsparing in de verpakking aangebracht. Plaats gelijk de bijbehorende adapter in de originele verpakking, dit voorkomt een chaos van snoeren en het nadelige effect later bij verkeerd aansluiten. Lemax heeft dus heel handig een klittenbandje om de piepschuim box om deze weer uit de kartonnen doos te trekken, heeft u dit niet, dan zou een breed elastiek (uit kleding?) ook een oplossing kunnen zijn.
Los gestrooid landschapmateriaal, zoals sneeuw, zand, grind e.d. zoveel mogelijk met stoffer en blik opvegen alvorens te stofzuigen voor het behoud van uw stofzuiger en de huiselijke vrede ;-) Het uiteindelijke landschap, indien dit niet uit de lege verpakkingen bestond, kunt u misschien bewaren en met een kleine aanpassing ooit weer her gebruiken. Veel succes bij het afruimen van uw dorp, denk hierbij gewoon alvast aan het volgende dorp, dan valt het allemaal wel mee.

5 Een trein in je dorp

Voor vele mensen, brengt niets meer sfeer en nostalgie aan een dorp als een bewegende trein. De O-Schaal van Bachmann treinen die op spoor HO rijden hebben die combinatie mogelijk gemaakt, en betaalbaar. Ondanks de  vrolijke kleuren voor Kerstmis, zijn dit geen speelgoedtreintjes. Het zijn gedetailleerde, nauwkeurige modellen van echte treinen die eens in steden in Noord-Amerika reden. Maar nog beter, verkoos Bachmann om treinen en streetcars (een tram) te maken die perfect passen bij de meeste dorpen, zoals die van Lemax, Luville en Dept56. op On30 schaal.
Deze treinen voor dit seizoens artikel zijn meestal verfraaid met kleuren voor Kerst. Toch, maakt Bachmann ook On30 treinen in andere kleurenschema's waarvan u het hele jaar door kan genieten. Voor diegene, zonder genoeg ruimte, om een complete baan rond hun dorp te zetten, heeft Bachmann de streetcars gemaakt, een tram met een ommekeermechanisme, zodat uw wagentje automatisch heen kan en weer terug.

On30 schaal, is de juiste grootte voor de dorpen van Luville, Dept.56 en Lemax. Dat betekent dat deze treinen zo groot zijn als O, maar zij lopen op de maat EZ-Spoor van Bachmann HO, dat je bijna overal kan plaatsen. "O" in On30 betekent dat de treinen in de schaal van O zijn, en die is op schaal 1: 48 De meeste dorpen zijn ook ongeveer die schaal, vandaar dat zij zo goed samen gaan. "N30" betekent dat de treinen modellen van "echte" treinen zijn die op sporen liepen die vrij smal waren. Deze "smalle maat" treinen werden over het algemeen ingezet voor vrij kleine spoorwegen, en zij konden gaan waar het te duur zou geweest zijn om een "standaardmaat" spoorweg te bouwen.

Ook Lemax heeft een "eigen" trein in hun collectie, deze betaalbare Hornby trein is wat eenvoudiger van opzet en is voorzien van wagonnetjes met kerstbomen. Ook deze trein is op de juiste schaal voor in een kerstdorp. Department56 (ooit onderdeel van Bachmann) heeft een paar jaar geleden een tijdje een trein in het assortiment gehad maar laat dit tegenwoordig helemaal aan Bachmann over.

6 Schaal verhouding

De schaal is de verhouding tussen het originele object en de afbeelding ervan of het model. De schaal is de vergroting- of verkleiningsfactor. Deze wordt uitgedrukt in een breuk. Als het model 10 × kleiner is dan het origineel, dan is de schaal dus 1 : 10. De 'schaal' 1 : 48 geeft dus aan dat 1 cm van het model 48 cm van het origineel betreft. Wat betreft de huisjes schommelt de maat ergens tussen 1:48 en 1:64.  Vooral de verhouding van de figurines ten opzichten van de huizen verbaasd de meesten mensen nogal, en terecht! Toch is hier bewust voor gekozen. Zouden namelijk de huizen groter (materiaal) of de figurines kleiner (priegelwerk) worden, lopen de kosten niet meer evenredig met het product. Als je dit verschil naast je neer kunt leggen is het ook makkelijker straks om eens iets persoonlijks toe te voegen wat niet geheel aan de maat voldoet.

7  Kijken kletsen en kopen op internet

Eenmaal in aanraking gekomen met het "dorpvirus" is het logisch dat u gaat speuren naar meer info en gelijkgestemden. Zo kwam u waarschijnlijk ook op Minidorp.nl. Het internet staat vol met kerst- en Minidorpen. Dit varieert van fotoalbums met dorpjes tot sites van leveranciers vol nieuws en producten. Sites met informatie tot complete online winkels. Nieuw en tweedehands aanbod tot hele comunities. Via internet is het mogelijk om dorpen over de hele wereld te bekijken, unieke items aan te schaffen in een ver land, uw eigen dorp wereldwijd te showen en te communiceren met andere verzamelaars tot ver over de grens. Op een paar punten gaan we hier in, om het wellicht iets makkelijker te maken ook online met uw hobby bezig te zijn.

Als eerste de fotoalbums. Dit zijn "plekjes" op internet waarop u uw foto's kunt plaatsen zodat deze voor anderen te bezichtigen zijn zonder dat u met afdrukken langs hoeft te gaan. Zeker voor dorpenbouwers een uitkomst omdat wij graag onze dorpen laten zien. Op de multimediapagina van deze site staan een aantal links naar dit soort albums. Het werkt heel eenvoudig. Om een account te maken dient u zich te registreren met een e-mail adres en dan kunt u aparte albums aanmaken door een naam in te voeren voor het album en de foto's direct naar de site te uploaden (laden). Daarna heeft u de keus om het album openbaar te maken of privé te houden. De naam die u aan uw account heeft gegeven is veelal ook het internet adres om andere uit te nodigen om uw foto's te bekijken. Ook is het
mogelijk om via uw album mensen uit te nodigen. Veel van dit soort sites zijn kosteloos voor kleine gebruikers, uw album wordt dan voorzien van reclames. Tegen een geringe vergoeding heeft u meer ruimte voor foto's en worden er geen reclames getoond. Groot voordeel van het online plaatsen van foto's is dat uw foto's bij computerproblemen niet verloren gaan. Het is mogelijk om elk dorp bijvoorbeeld een eigen album te geven en zo langzaam een eigen archief te maken.

Elk merk en leverancier van een beetje betekenis heeft ook een eigen website, waarop zij meestal de complete productlijn tonen. Deze sites melden meestal als eerste hun nieuwe trends of laatste nieuws. Kopen via deze sites is niet mogelijk, wel zijn deze sites vaak handige naslagwerken om informatie te vinden over bijvoorbeeld verkooppunten of details. Hoewel er een contactpagina of e-mail adres wordt vermeld is dat meestal niet de bedoeld voor consumenten om vragen/klachten over aangekochte items te sturen. Uw verkoper is daar de aangewezen persoon voor. De sites van de officiële merken vind u hier bij weblinks.

Winkelen kan tegenwoordig ook vanuit de luie stoel en er is een ruim aanbod van webwinkels met Kerstdorpen. Hoe weet u nou als consument of u met een betrouwbare webwinkel te maken heeft? Die vraag kunt u zich vast voorstellen als u eenmaal via Google bijvoorbeeld heeft gezocht.. Er zitten helaas nogal wat winkels op het web waarbij het klachten regent en die daarmee het vertrouwen van de consument hebben geschaad. Toch hoeft online kopen geen fiasco te worden. Om een veilige webwinkel te vinden zijn er wel een paar regels. Heeft de webwinkel ook een echte winkel dan kunt u er veelal vanuit gaan dat het met uw bestelling wel goed komt of de veilige  betrouwbare webwinkel is aangesloten bij, en toont een logo van, de ThuisWinkel Waarborg.

De algemene voorwaarden van de Nederlandse Thuiswinkel Organisatie zijn tot stand gekomen in overleg met de Consumentenbond en traden in werking per 1 januari 2009. Deze organisatie stelt strenge eisen aan de leverancier en biedt u als consument kopersbescherming.
Waarom online kopen? Gemak! Online winkelen kan 24/7 en je hoeft er de deur niet voor uit. Dit zijn de belangrijkste redenen voor klanten om online te kopen maar daarnaast denkt men betere prijzen te krijgen, makkelijker te vergelijken en hopen een breder assortiment aan te treffen met meer aanbiedingen.
De belangrijkste redenen om niet online te kopen zijn onzekerheid over levering, onveiligheid met betalen en niet duidelijk weten hoe te bestellen. Daarnaast heb je geen beleving met het product, het is voor aankoop niet tastbaar en er zijn geen aparte afspraken of onderhandelingen mogelijk. Toch groeit het aantal online aankopen steeds meer. Veilig uw aankopen online afrekenen kan via een aantal manieren. Als u online bankiert kan dit in Nederland bijvoorbeeld met iDEAL in een paar stappen. U bestelt een product bij een webwinkel, nadat dit in uw winkelwagentje is geplaatst klikt u op afrekenen en kiest iDEAL als betaalmethode, selecteer de bank waar u uw bankzaken al online regelt en u komt direct in het bekende internet bankierprogramma van uw eigen bank. De gegevens van uw aankoop zijn dan al ingevuld, op de bekende manier keurt u de betaling goed en u ontvangt een bevestiging van uw bank. If all preparations are taken care of you can best at first start with seperating moveable pieces, like figurines and trees. Very handy to put away your figurines are the christmas ball boxes which you can buy at house keeping shops or D.I.Y. shops. These boxes are foreseen of compartments and are special after christmas cheap to acquire. For the smaller pieces there are also storage / sort boxes for screws and nails. Also these boxes have compartments but are most of the time on the narrowly side. The advantage of this way of putting away things is that you'll keep an overview and the boxes are stackable. Betweem two layers of figurines you can maybe put a thin snow blanket. To be really capable of having an overview of all sets of figurines and keeping them togehter you can put the item numbers with a permanent marker below the figurines on the storage box. If you than mention how many figurines are forming a set, for example item number 58396/3 exists of 3 parts.... you'll always be able to find the complete set.
After all loose trees, figurines and walls are cleaned up, you can start with disconnecting your houses one by one from the wires, clean the dust and pack them in the boxes. Department 56 has almost around every house a piece of plastic which is very handy to have the house sliding in a flexible way in and out of the foam box. You can use plastic shopping bags for the other brands. Don't forget to get rid of all seperate flags, hanging plates etc. before putting the houses in the boxes. Also place the adaptor that belongs to the house in the original packing. This avoids the chaos of pile of wires and connecting in the future the wrong adapter at the wrong building and all negative effects of doing so. Lemax has a thus a very handy velcro around the foam box which makes it very easy to put and to take the foam box from the sleeve packaging. If you don't have the velcro's you can use a wide elastic (from cloths) as a solution.
Loose strawed landscape material, like snow, sand, grit etc. as much as possible sweep up with dust and can before vacuum cleaning to remain your vaccuum cleaner and the cosy atmosphere ;-) The final landscape, if not existing out of empty packing of your pieces, you could maybe keep with a small adjustment for future use. Good luck with clearing your village, think already during this process on your next village, than all will turn out better.

5 A train in you're village

Many people like to complete their Christmas village with a moving train. Now Bachmann's O-scale trains that run on two rail (HO-gauge) track have made the combination easy, fun, and affordable. Even better, Bachmann chose to model trains and streetcars that look like they belong with most Christmas village structures such as those from Lemax, Luville and Dept.56. That means that these trains are almost as big as the Lionel trains®, but they run on Bachmann HO gauge EZ-Track, which you can fit almost anywhere. Every train is exquisitely detailed. The "O" in On30 means that the trains are in O scale, that is they are 1/48th the size of the "real thing." Most display villages are about the same scale, too, which is why they go so well together. The "n30" means that the trains are models of real-world trains that ran on tracks that were relatively narrow, as train tracks go. These "narrow gauge" trains were generally owned by relatively small railroads, and they could go places where it would have been too expensive to build a "standard gauge" railroad.

Also Lemax has their own Hornby train. This train is more simple and affordable. It has wagons with Christmastrees and the size also fits the villages. Department56 ( once owned by Bachmann) stopt their train a while ago and leave this subject complete to Bachmann nowdays.

6 Scale proportion

The "scale" is the proportion between the original object and the image of it or the model. The scale is the enlarging - or reducing factor. These it is expressed in a ratio. If the model is 10 times smaller than original, then the scale is therefore 1: 10. For example the ' scale ' 1: 48 means therefore 1 cm of the model gives 48 cm of originally concerns to that. What concern the houses, they are somewhere between 1/48 and 1/64 cm. These scale proportions will certainly not have been standard such as you possibly will see on some houses and  the figurines.
